Turnkey Hosts Premier Nigerian Insurance CIO’s Conference

Last week, Turnkey Africa successfully hosted the eighth edition of the annual Information Technology Committee CIO Conference organized by the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA). The two-day event which attracted over 30 delegates and participants was held at the Trademark Hotel in Nairobi on the 10th and 11th of October 2019.
The conference themed ‘Leadership, Innovation & Transformation; Insurance Industry CIOs Readiness” featured an impressive lineup of speakers addressing various topics including innovation, digital transformation, cyber Security and insurance, operational resilience, risk quantification and so much more.
Representing the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) at the event was the Deputy Chairman Mr. Tom Gitogo who gave the keynote address officially opening the conference, welcoming the delegates and remarking on the aptness and relevance of the conference theme for the current economic times.
Four key papers were presented at the event including one on the conference theme; “Leadership, Innovation & Transformation: Insurance Industry CIOs Readiness” presented by Mr. James Muritu, the head of engineering at Atlas Mara Digital Kenya. The session turned out to be one of the key highlights of the event as drawing from his years of experience in both the insurance and technology spheres, Mr. Muritu displayed a remarkable depth of understanding of the subject to articulate it to those present.
Also speaking at the event were Mr. Lekan Oguntunde, the NIA ITC Chairman, Mr. Kizito Makatiani, CEO of Turnkey Africa Ltd, and Mr. Souvik Banerjea from Continental Re who represented the NIA Council Chairman on IT Dr. Femi Oyentunji, Mr. Roland Omoresemi, CEO of Tezza Business Solutions, Mr. Shikoli Makatiani, COO/CTO of Turnkey Africa Ltd, Mr. Ooye Benjamin, Head of Information Technology, Allianz Nigeria, Dorothy Maseke, Group Manager, Risk & Compliance, ICEA Lion Group and Mr. William Makatiani, Managing Director, Serianu Ltd.
Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) which is the umbrella trade association of all Insurance and Reinsurance Companies operating in Nigeria is made up of several technical committees one of which is the Information Technology Committee (ITC). The ITC has for the last 8 years held an annual conference aimed at sharpening the skills of its members and affording them opportunities to meet innovative solution providers offering cutting edge technologies and money saving strategies for the deployment.
Nairobi played host to the event for the first time, with the NIA having held the event in Nigeria five times and in Ghana two times previously. When asked by the CIO EA Magazine why they chose Kenya this time around, the ITC committee chairman Mr. Kunle Kuponiyi said; ‘We see Kenya as the tech hub in Africa, that’s why we came to interact with tech experts and also the insurance industry here.”
